A Wish List - In Four Parts

I wish I had a bathroom
in my classroom,
which seems a bit ridiculous,
because all it means is that
I'm lazy.

I wish I hadn't admitted that,
because now I seem shallow,
and lazy.

I wish reading the Modernists -
William Carlos Williams -
didn't leave me feeling
like a failure as a writer
just because I use punctuation,
capital letters,
complete sentences,
or because I don't
use so many line breaks.
Something about those Modernists
leaves me cold,
but something about the Poems
warms me back.

I wish I hadn't planned ahead
and said
I'd wish in four parts only.
Because I did,
I feel constrained
to stop.

I have read
the post
that was in
your blog

and which
I should have
for breakfast

Forgive me
it was delicious
so sweet
but now I have
some serifs
stuck in my teeth

This is just to say - I approve of your Williams reference. Even though I don't like plums at all.

To Lara the blogger said...

mashing a plum on
the street a paper bag
of them in her hand

They taste bad to her
They taste bad
to her. They taste
bad to her

You can see it by
the way she holds herself
away from the one half
mashed in her hand

an effluvium of overripe plums
seeming to fill the air
They taste bad to her

The simple fact is
she would rather eat
mac and cheese.

Have you ever read Love that Dog? It's an awesome book written in a series of poems... This post made me think of that book

Humph. Well, since Lara didn't pop in to praise me on my second Williams reference, I'll do it myself: Go me! I rock! Me and google are a freakin' Williams-referencing machine!
