Randomness - Always a Crowd Favorite

I had two blogging deadlines to meet this week - yeah, that's right, deadlines. One was for the upcoming Blog Exchange, which will be happening Sunday. Not wanting to stress out my wonderful partner, I decided waiting until 3am Saturday night to write it might not be the greatest strategy. I finished it this afternoon and sent it off in plenty of time for posting by Sunday.

The other deadline was for TopBlogMag, an online magazine written by bloggers. It is published every Monday, and in my brief experience, is always entertaining and thought-provoking. My first post will go up in this coming Monday's issue, so I had to send that out before the weekend as well. Y'all should go check it out and lend some support - I'll remind you again on Monday.

So on the heels of those two deadlines, and in the hopes of a less serious post than yesterday's, today will be a bit of randomness for all you lovely readers. Try not to get lost in the fluffy nonsense.

-----------------------------------

So, by nature, I'm a night owl. After graduation, when I had a lot more free time on my hands, my schedule slowly shifted until I was staying up until about 4:00am and sleeping until 1:00 or 2:00 in the afternoon. The only problem with that is the fact that there is nothing good on TV in the middle of the night. Occasionally you strike gold with a cheesy movie rerun, but generally it's a wasteland.

There is one oasis, however, in the desert island of midnight TV: the Bare Minerals infomercial.

I've probably seen this program about a hundred times, and yet I still go searching for it at two in the morning just to watch it again. It's amazing! They just sprinkle some powder on a brush, sweep it across their face, and suddenly... GORGEOUS WOMEN APPEAR! It's like a magic trick that just never gets old to me.

So finally, the other day, I decided to go ahead and try some of the stuff. I'm a little nervous, but they have a money-back satisfaction guarantee if I end up hating it. Have any of you tried it? Is it good?

I'll give you an update when I get the stuff in the mail and finally give it a try.

-----------------------------------

I got a job! I'm going to be assistant teacher at a small independent preschool. I'll get to still be teaching, but also get to play with little kids all day, and it's very close to home. The only real down side is that the pay isn't too great, but I'm okay with that for now. It's enough to pay the bills and put a little away into savings. For the next year or so, while I figure out my long-term plans, I'm pretty happy with that.

Before I got this job, however, I'd been interviewing for a number of different positions, including other preschools, daycare centers, writing jobs, and nanny placements. One of the nanny positions seemed like it might actually be a really great fit for a while. The mom, dad, and I all got along great, and the kids instantly loved me, climbing into my lap for story-reading. After my second-round interview, the mom told me that I was in her top three choices. She was meeting with one of the other two the following day, but would make a decision over the weekend and call me on Monday. Great, I said - that was fine with me.

But then Monday came... and went...

And then Tuesday...

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday...

A second weekend...

Another week...

Okay, I get it, I didn't get the job. But seriously? After two interviews, plus coming out and telling me I'm one of the three you're considering, you couldn't find the time to call or email me to thank me for my time and interest? Come on all you moms out there, back me up on this: Isn't the polite thing to do at that point to contact all three with your decision?

Oh well. Water under the bridge now.

Maybe she couldn't get through...

-----------------------------------

Last, but certainly not least, I'll leave you with a few more pictures from the photo shoot I had with my mom while she was here:

Now that's what I call a post. There was a cat on a telephone, there were product placements (don't think we don't realise you're getting money from www.dodgyfaceproducts-r-us.com), and there was nothing incomprehensible to the emotionally illiterate amongst us.

Finally something worth reading again! Woohoo! You'd think it was my birthday or something!

Schools and other employers that don't have the courtesy to tell you that you didn't get the job suck!

Ignore Aussie Boy! (Yes, Aussie Boy, I am talking to YOU!) Unless, of course, Aussie Boy has worn make-up in the past and can tell you FOR A FACT that Bare Minerals is dodgy. In which case, you may want to reconsider a few things, Lara.

I have been a faithful user of Bare Minerals for almost 4 years and I would never put anything else on my face. I love the stuff. And it lasts forever (and doesn't expire). I wear the foundation every day, and I am only on my 3rd container. The eyeshadows never get used up (so share with a friend). Check out theie website. They have several retail stores in California, and you can try stuff on.

Warning- the eyeshadows are addicting. You will find yourself buying numerous shades. It's dangerous.
(Can you tell I love this stuff?)

Yout Mom is as cute as you are!! Congrats on the new job ;)

The mom looking for a nanny most DEFINITELY should have called you, regardless of her decision. Poor manners on her part.

Congrats on your job!!! Can't wait to hear of your exploits with little ones. They're always entertaining, for sure. I admire anyone who has the patience to wipe tears and noses all day.

By the way, LOVE that last pic of you and Mama.

You are so cute. And pretty. And adorable. And I want to smoosh your face with my hands.

aussie boy - i'm glad you liked it, though i agree that you shouldn't knock the facial products unless you *know* they're dodgy. i'm sad you don't think my blog is worth reading the rest of the time, though... :(

CTG - yes! totally! it's uncool and unprofessional, if you ask me.

betsy - ooh, i'm glad to hear someone's used it and loves it. so far, i'm only doing the basic stuff - foundation, etc. we'll see if i decide to start working on eyeshadows and lip stuff as well.

elroy - lucky all of us!

r u serious? - she is, isn't she? :)

tense - glad you've got my back on the nanny position. she really should have told me something. and yeah, the wiping? you forgot wiping their butts, too. :-P

mocha - aw, shucks. well, you can smoosh away in a couple weeks! ;)

i have been waiting to hear back on the bare minerals. Maybe you can show us a pic with the bare minerals. . . .Do a post PLEASE. I thought about it as I am sitting here at 2:18 in the morning. I'm also wondering how well it works on different ethnicities.

proverbs - yes, i will definitely do a post for you. i should probably take some pictures now of how i look before and after my current makeup, then do pics before and after the bare minerals. i'll only be able to give you the scoop on how it works for pasty white girls, but you can definitely have my thoughts for that ethnic type. ;)

Congrats on the job, and the crazy ass BF. Sorry I haven't been commenting much, been busy.

I suggest a drive-by with squirt guns and water balloons for the mom that didn't call you back.

It's always a wonder how cats can stand on the most unusual locations.
