To Twist or Not to Twist

Posted by Lara at 9:52 PM
All my university classes are three hours long. (Well, except for Practicum, which is only two hours long but followed by a mandatory one hour meeting, so it’s basically three hours long.) Because of this, all our classes have a break where we get to have snacks, brought in by different students each day. Today’s snack was a hodgepodge of all sorts of different flavors – chips and salsa, bread and hummus, apples with peanut butter, string cheese, and Oreos. I filled my plate with some chips and salsa, grabbed a couple Oreos, and headed back to my seat. As we restarted class, with everyone snacking on their food, I glanced around the room and saw a classmate twist apart her Oreo and begin to lick the icing on the inside.

What the… ?

People really do that? I thought that was just some weird thing the people in the commercials always did. I never got it, either. It’s a cookie, for crying out loud! Why the heck are you dismembering the cookie before sucking out its intestines and then consuming the carcass? I mean, isn’t that essentially what’s going on here? It’s a COOKIE! Just bite it! Like a normal cookie!

Needless to say, I missed about the next five minutes of class discussion just watching in fascination. Every… single… Oreo… *twist* *pull* *lick* *bite* Weird…

How do you eat an Oreo?

Reminds me of a scene in Lost. Sawyer is having problems pulling apart the Oreo without breaking it, so Hurley comes over and tells him that his technique is all wrong. He has to twist it off, not just pull.

There's your advice, if you ever decide to try it. :)

Now I'm hungry. Double-stuff Oreos are the best. I usually just eat them like a cookie. It takes too long to open them up.

If I have an individual Oreo, I'll eat it in the normal cookie way. I don't separate them because I don't like the cookie parts without the cream. However, the BEST way to eat Oreos is to fill a bowl with them and pour milk in, like cereal. Mmmm. Haven't done that in a while, though.

I USED to eat Oreos in the following fashion:

1. Pour glass 3/4 full with milk.
2. Place two or three Oreos in glass.
3. Submerge Oreos until sunken at bottom.
4. Drink milk (no hurry).
5. Extract totally soggy Oreos from the bottom of glass and enjoy.

Bon Appetite!

to all: Fiance informs me that he eats oreos by splitting them apart and reassembling them into "frankencookies." weird...

seeser - yeah, i definitely noticed the twisting action. but no, i don't think i'll try it, thanks.

lady m - see, i suppose F's plan of reassembling the cookies is a way of creating your own "double stuffed" cookies. you know, if you have to settle for normal oreos. :-P

graham - normal cookie way = good. eating them in a bowl with milk = weird. unless you're talking about the actual cereal itself (oreo o's). but that's still a little weird, 'cause oreos just shouldn't be cereal.

op - hahahaha! you called yourself op! that's awesome! i'm so stoked! that makes me so happy, i'll even ignore the fact that you're a total freak. oh, i'm sorry, i mean, you USED to be a total freak (assuming your "USED to" was an indication that you no longer eat your oreos like that). ;)
