Hope of Getting Better IS Getting Better

I met with a psychiatrist on Wednesday morning, and about an hour later I had a bottle of anti-depressants in my hand. I've been taking them daily since Wednesday, and I feel so much better already.

Don't worry, I don't think they're miracle pills. I sincerely doubt that the pills themselves have had much effect over just four days. What's making me feel better is the knowledge that I've done something to make things better - that I've taken a very real step towards becoming less unhappy all the time. Few things can lift the spirits like knowing the future won't be quite as dark as the present; that very knowledge makes the present less dark.

Enjoy some work clothes:

And while we're on the subject of photos, go check out my photo blog. Yes, it still exists, and yes, it's been updated recently. I have grandiose hopes of updating more in the future. Note that these are hopes, not plans. Just sayin'.

Good for you! I don't think there's anything wrong at all with getting a little help (or else I'd be a hypocrite.) Just knowing that you are choosing to be proactive does have a strange way of making you feel better - so does shopping and clothes. Love the cardigan in picture number one!

Look at that skirt! Wait, I don't want to be one of those people, I hate it when they do that to me bc I actually wear skirts a fair amount of the time. Instead, consider this jealousy of your weather. Short sleeves and legs, Good Lord, what will she do next??

There was actually an article in my paper recently (skimmed, not absorbed in depth) addressing the "pro-active" effect - that most low-level depressive people start feeling better not because of the pills but because they took the step to get help. Not saying you should stop the pills, just echoing what you were saying about how taking action has been a part of your starting to feel better.

Good for you!

Love that first outfit...planning on wearing something very similar tomorrow myself!

Lara, it takes amazing strength to crawl out of the darkness and into the light. I hope you are proud of yourself, and feeling good, about that step. It's amazing.

I"m glad that you have hope! Nothing wrong with a "lil sum sum" to help you out. Done it myself on occasion.

And, I need to know how to get a wardrobe like yours on a teachers salary. I'm sure you're the best dressed teacher at your school.
