More Awards!

The blogosphere can be a little award-crazy sometimes, but I can't honestly say I mind. It's fun to see different spins on what is "good" about a blog or blogger. Is it because they're nice? Because they rock? Because they make you think? Also, it's always nice to know that someone thinks you're doing well at this whole blogging thing.

That's why when I got an email from GHD saying she'd given me a little something over at her place, I was pleasantly surprised. For a lurker, of all people, to give me a blog award - well, that's a big deal. She gifted me with the Egel Nest Blog Award for "Blog Eggcellence" (and I love me a good pun). Thanks, GHD!

Since the award is supposedly for blogs that have been "hatched," I'm going to pass this award on to three awesome blogs that are more recent additions to my reading list.

1. GenPink - Elysa rocks something fierce, and has created a space for twenty-something bloggers to find a supportive network of kindred spirits.

2. In Pursuit of Happily Ever After - Miss B is possibly my new favorite blogger, because she reminds me so much of myself in a lot of ways, so I can really relate to her. Of course, her dating life seems to be going a lot better than my own right now, to which I say: Good for her!

3. Tali Bali - Tali's a good friend of mine, and she recently "hatched" a new blog. I've loved reading her daily posts since she signed up for NaBloPoMo, and I hope she continues regular blogging after November ends.

Congrats, ladies, on your "eggcellent" blogging. Ha!

But wait, there's more! Lindz has presented me with an award as well, this one for my "powerful words." Thank you, Lindz - that is a great compliment.

Those people I've given this award to are encouraged to post it on their own blogs; list three things they believe are necessary for good, powerful writing; and then pass the award on to the five blogs they want to honour, who in turn pass it on to five others, etc etc. Let's send a roar through the blogosphere!

Hmmm, three things I believe are necessary for good, powerful writing...

Emotion - Whatever the emotion is, you have to feel it if you ever want your readers to feel it. This goes for trying to make your readers laugh, cry, or raise arms against some injustice.

Dedication - No giving up! Writer's block is temporary, and bad posts might have to be sacrificed once in a while before you get to a great one. But if you just keep at it, the words will come.

And last, but not least, Life - The best writing is based on things that are real: real emotions, real relationships, real fears, real triumphs. It's been said before, but I'll say it again. When you blog about your life, you have to sacrifice some of your blogging time to going out and living life.

So, five bloggers who "roar" with their words:

1. Flutter from FlutterCrafts - Dark and Divine. Dear lord, this lady kills me with how hauntingly beautiful some of her posts are. She gives me chills, she makes me cry, she makes me laugh until my stomach hurts. She's remarkable.

2. Meg from Simply Nutmeg. What I love best is that reading her posts makes me think about my relationship with my mom and appreciate it all the more. She's a writer you all should want to know.

3. Amanda from both Tumble Dry and The Wink. Boy howdy, does this woman know how to
wield words. She is what I hope I might be someday when I am writing about my own children and how desperately I love them.

4. Tori from When I Finally Decided To Get It. Tori writes very honestly about her thoughts, feelings, and life ups-and-downs, which is incredibly inspiring to those of us reading. She's another one who reminds me of me in some ways, which is probably why I'm so riveted by her posts.

5. Guilty Secret from Guilty Secret. She's been sharing "one side of the story" about her relationship problems with her long-time boyfriend, and it's quite poignant. In stark contrast to some other blogs I've mentioned here, she offers me a totally different perspective on life because I think she's very different from me in many ways.

Thank you all for being so amazing and rocking the blogosphere with your words. :)

Anyone out there have suggestions for blog awards you think are missing from the blogosphere?

And you are one of my new favorite bloggers, as well.

Congrats on your award and thanks for mine. And don't worry about the took me 18 months to decide to start looking again and nearly 3 months to find a man I want to spend any significant amount of time with.

It'll happen.

I think I'd also nominate you the blogger with the best impression of someone in shock. (People's exhibit A: One online digital photograph of Lara's reaction to the Sunday Google-Age query "Show me what is under your skirt," dated September 9, 2007.

Two posts in a row? Good grief, Lara, is Sean sending you gift certificates to shoe stores to keep you fueling my self esteem so I don't get mired in mama hormones?

I agree that there are a lot of awards out there, and often times they are a bit of a stretch. Like Flutter, the way you have bestowed these, the words you've used and the history behind them, well, they really make this post of yours one of the greatest tributes a blogger could hope to receive.

Thank you!

Thank you, Lara for this award but I am NOT old enough to be your mother. Is there an award out there for the funniest commenter, because I think it should go to me. Really. I slay me.

hey so I am way behind on my feed reader and I am reading your posts from Nov 1 and I just got to this one. What a pleasant surprise to be listed on here. I'm glad you enjoy my blog. I enjoy yours as well.

Congrats to you on both awards.
