Awards

[Exciting comment note: We *might* hit 500 comments on this post. I've been excitedly watching the tally, and it'll either be today or tomorrow. Who will be lucky number 500? It better not be me...]

I’m stealing this from
Aimee as a quick and easy post for a travel day – I’m flying home today, sadly. These are some exciting (ha) awards for 2006:

1) DRINKING BUDDY OF THE YEAR
Holy crap. Um, well, I really don’t drink very often, and when I do, it’s pretty much always one drink with a meal or something. I have a foggy recollection of some sort of part
y, with friends, but I can’t really remember. Really. Don’t ask. I DON’T. REMEMBER.

2) LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD - LONGEST FRIEND
Makayla’s Mommy. I think we’ve known each other by name since third or fourth grade, but we really became friends at the end of seventh grade. And she’s still like family to me. I love her to death. :)

3) HIGH POINT OF THE YEAR
Getting accepted to my teaching program.

4) LOW POINT OF THE YEAR
The overdose.

5) BEST HOLIDAY
My birthday (can that be a holiday?). I had a super fun picnic with some of my close friends at a park near my house. It was low-key, but good times with the people I love, including Mom and Seeser, who flew out for the weekend, and Bubbers, who greatly enjoyed the park's play area.

6) ANTHEM FOR 2006

Um, “I’m a big fat idiot and I deserve to be run out of town and abandoned by all who once loved me”? No? No one knows that song? Well, if not that one, then I have no idea.

7) ANY REGRETS
So many. So, so many…

8) BEST NIGHT OUT
Very tough call. I had a good time at the Ball in February, especially because I’d just found out that afternoon that I’d been accepted to my teaching program, so I ran around excitedly telling everyone the news.

9) WORST NIGHT OUT
R’s anniversary ball last month. I burst into tears while talking to an innocent bystander at least six times, including while saying goodnight to the host and hostess. I just couldn’t seem to hold it together that night.

10) WHO DID YOU SPEND VALENTINES WITH?

J. (And this should read, "With whom did you spend Valentine's?")

11) BEST RELATIONSHIP
J.

12) WORST RELATIONSHIP
No, won’t.

13) BEST DECISION MADE THIS YEAR

Not saying “please,” even when I’ve wanted to. It’s a decision I make pretty much every single day, even now.

14) BEST ADVICE YOU'VE HEARD THIS YEAR

Asking for help does not make you weak. Let people help you when the time comes. You will know when the time comes.” I gave it to myself in my “Dear Lara…” letter. I have not been following it very well. Even though I have amazing friends completely willing to help.

15) BEST NEW FRIEND(s)
In person? OP, no doubt. As I’ve told him many times, he came into my life at *just* the right time. He’s amazing.

Online? Aly and Sassy. You gals are great, and I love you both dearly, even though we’ve yet to meet. Someday, I’m telling you… ;)

16) WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR
Not to be such a f*ck-up.

17) MOST STUPID IDEA WHEN DRUNK
I don’t have ideas when I’m drunk. My mind pretty much just goes blank and I giggle a lot.

18) MOST LOYAL FRIEND
I have a whole lot of reason to say Lady M. She’s stood by me and helped me more than I can say through a whole lot of craptastic crap. And, though I doubt it even needs saying, J. probably takes the taco (and that's from a movie - anyone know which one?) J. has loved and supported me much more than I ever deserved - stands by me to this day. I don’t know how I got so lucky.

19) BIGGEST CHANGE OF THE YEAR

Um, I don’t think there’s even any reason to answer this. You know. You already know.

God, the year started out so well. And then it all went to shit. So fast.

So fast...

----------------------------------

Day 28 of LaBloShoeMo: Super-Cute Flats

First pair of Day 28: The Sporty Mary Janes

These are sort of like sneakers, except they have a MJ-like strap, except the strap doesn’t just go straight across… so I dubbed them my “sporty Mary Janes.” They’re very comfortable, and I like that they’re unusual in design. They still look cute with a variety of outfits, yet they’re different.

Second pair of Day 28: The Sailor Flats

Okay, I know that, like, everyone and their mother has these shoes. When I was trying to decide whether or not to buy them, I realized that I’d just be going along with the crowd if I did it. But I went and did it anyway, ‘cause damnit – they’re cute. I already know, even without having worn them yet, that they’ll give me blisters for a while. But a well-placed band-aid can fix that easily, so no worries on that score.

aww! you are my best new friend too! with such great shoes. I'm really your friend for the shoes, you know.

I understand feeling like a fuck up; but we're awesome. Just in general. The awesomeness, it's overwhelming.

Love the MJ sneakers. Tres cute.

I want the MJ sneakers. WANT WANT WANT. Where can I get them?

I will be stealing this awards thingy idea shortly.

I think that you deserve an award of some sort. Let's think... Most Honest Blawwwwg on TJ's Blawwwwgroll? Best Commenter (tied with Aly)? I'll have to mull this one over...

I hope your travel is safe!

I *I* IIIIIIIIII don't have those sailor shoes. But I want them. Oh how I want them! WANT WANT WANT.

Don't make me stomp, Lara. It's not pretty.

I think you're a pretty groovy chick yourself. *Squish* And if you're ever in Sydney? Dude! I shall take you shoe shopping. It's a date!

Lara, since reading your entry about your mom I have really enjoyed reading your blog. I have developed a somewhat maternal feeling toward you in that I always think of you as a daughter now. I admire your courage in being so open about your struggles. I am so looking forward to hearing about your 2007, a fresh start with a growing number of people who support you and care about you. Have a safe trip and I'll read you when you get home.

Yay for our backs! ;)

We've definitely got your back, though. Tmony Sophomores forever! Or, I guess, Old Core forever! (Does this sound like a yearbook signing yet?)

On a different note, I almost also got your shoes (the black ones). Except the ones I saw at Wal-mart extended the zig-zag strap one more time so it went across the front of the shoe, and I thought that looked dumb. So no shoes for me. I wish I'd found yours! But actually, it's probably good that I didn't because I'm pretty sure you'd prefer other people not to have the same shoes as you do.

*hugs* for you!

Lara,

I am honored to be your best "in-person" friend of the year. I'd like to take a moment to thank all the little people that made this possible. First, I'd like to thank my agent, Jerry McGuire, for believing in me and yelling "I love black people! Show me the money!" Second, I must thank my mother. Without her, I wouldn't be where I am today. In fact, I wouldn't really be anywhere without her. Third, I must give my heart-felt appreciation to the hot-dog vendor on Robson Street in Vancouver. His nourishing hot dogs have kept me going strong for many years. With the help of his delightful and delicious calories, I was able to train and practice my craft so that I could be your friend.

That about does it. I can't think of anyone else to thank.

I'm so happy that we had the opportunity to get to know each other this year. I can't wait to see you in just a few days.

With love,

OP

P.S. Charcoal is going to kill me for omitting her from the list.

What!?! No "Freaky Podophile of the Year" category? I would totally rock that award!!!

I am personally hurt that you refuse to acknowledge the significant role this podophile has played in your life.

Goodbye Lara! Goodbye!

P.S. Your Mary Jane's are SO F-ing hot!

sassy - yay! as i just said over at your place, i'm thrilled to have found such great blog friends. yes, we are awesome. overwhelmingly so. and i'm glad you like the shoes! but you'll still read me when they're gone, right? ... right?

p.s. yep, ballgown is mine. again, i designed it, but had it professionally made. it is definitely gorgeous, but also a bit uncomfortable after a while. i'll send you some dance pics if you'd like. :)

teacher - MJ sneakers are from payless. couple months ago. as for the post, steal away - though not the answers, those are mine. i do deserve an award, don't i? think it over and give me something good. ;)

aly - oh man. stomping the foot and everything. that's brutal, girl. i hope someone buys you a pretty pony soon, to appease that temper. and i can't believe you squished me! that's what we all do to tpiggy! next time i'm in sydney, i'll give you a call, and we'll shop. if you're ever in the bay area, give me a call - i'll take you to hooters and we'll get you a tank top.

amanda - awww, your comment made me tear up. i really appreciate your coming by to read and comment on my posts. and i've been enjoying your blog as well. also, my mom said to tell me she's glad you feel that way about me, but you're not allowed to get a post like hers. :-P

tpiglette - i still think of us as the tmony sophomores, regardless of how old we get. thanks for getting my back. :) as to the shoes, i wouldn't mind if you had my same shoes. we like being twins, remember? wondertwin powers, activate!

OP - you should be honored, 'cause lots of people wanted the part. it was a tough call, but the bribe you sent me really pushed you over the edge in my eyes. so good job with that.

p.s. i still love you, charcoal!

foot admirer - awwww... i'm sorry! you're right, you've been an important part of the blog this month. are you leaving me forever? i'll miss you...
