First Day Jitters

It's 3:38am and my alarm will be going off at 6:00am so that I can go to work. And what am I doing? I'm blogging.

(I actually got in bed around 12:30, but spent almost three hours tossing and turning before finally giving up and surrendering to my sleeplessness. I went through some old stacks of mail to find not one, not two, not three, but four credit cards waiting to be activated - guess I should start opening my mail more often.)

Yeah, so, that whole "going to work" thing? That's a lot of why I can't sleep. Okay, I will admit that my having gone to bed yesterday at 5:30am and sleeping until 4:30pm may be part of it. And having a caffeinated beverage with dinner at 8:30 probably also didn't help. But mostly I find that I'm too nervous to sleep, because tomorrow today I start a new job.

I mentioned before that I was talking with a new family about a nanny position, and after much deliberation on both sides, we have all decided that it's a good fit for everyone involved. I've had working interviews already - I've spent multiple days with the two boys - but I'm still nervous about my first REAL day tomorrow. I've been through enough "first" days by now that I know it will all be fine and I'm worrying for nothing. But somehow, knowing that doesn't actually help me feel less nervous.

Four o' clock in the morning is not the time for "demystifying black heels," which I know I've promised to do, so unfortunately, that will have to wait for another time. I suppose I was just hoping that by writing about my nervousness, I might release enough of it to get some sleep. I think it's time to go see if it worked...

Wish me luck!

(P.S. Don't forget to check out my Blog Exchange post from yesterday over at Alex's place! I talk about finally having sex, my favorite setdowns, and my picks for the Best New Blog of 2007. Who could resist?)

And here I just want to have a nap! In fact, I think I will...

Good luck with your first day. You'll be fine! Remember that you've been nocturnal for a while now, so you will slowly but surely revert back to sleeping at night. You might be very tired for a while!

Good luck today -- and congratulations on the job! Those little boys (and their parents) are lucky to have you.

Good luck on your first day, can't wait to hear more about how it went! I can tell you that next Monday when my new teaching position starts, I'll have had no sleep either!

I'm sure you'll charm the socks off your new wards (if they are wearing socks to begin with)--especially if you show up with cake frosting on your lips on your first day!

Good luck with your new job, and with 2008!

Congratulations! I hope it all went well.

I think my user name issue arises from the fact that my blog is tied to an e-mail address other than my personal one.

Sending you heaps of good wishes. You'll be great. That is one extremely lucky family to have you for a nanny. Sincerely.
